What you Need to Make Strawberry Chocolate Brownies from scratch:

(Full recipe with exact measurements, at the end of this post)

I know a lot of people prefer to use box mixes when it comes to certain things and I can totally understand that. But when it comes to these brownies, they’re just as easy as any box mix and taste just as good. To make these chocolate brownies with strawberry, you’ll need:

  • Butter: you can use salted butter if that is all you have BUT you must omit the added salt from the recipe. Melted and slightly cooled.
  • Sugar
  • Eggs: At room temperature, is better.
  • Vanilla extract
  • All-purpose flour: To make the recipe gluten free: substitute plain flour for an equal amount of gluten-free flour. Follow the recipe as written.
  • Salt
  • Cocoa powder: Unsweetened.
  • Fresh strawberries: Make sure they are fresh. Sliced and cut into heart shapes.
  • Chocolate chip:  I recommend using a dark or semi-sweet (NOT unsweetened) block of baking chocolate which melts easily.

How to Make Strawberry Chocolate Brownies:

A great thing about this brownies topped with strawberry recipe, is that it’s also an easy one bowl recipe.  Just mix everything up in one bowl, pour it into the pan, top with chocolate chips and strawberry hearts and pop it into the oven.

  • Adjust the oven rack to the lower third position and preheat oven to 350°F. Line a 9×9 inch baking pan with parchment paper (making sure to leave some overhang), spray generously with non-stick baking spray and set aside.
  • In a large bowl, add the melted butter, melted chocolate and granulated sugar and whisk together until well combined. Add in the eggs and vanilla and whisk some more until fully combined.
  • Sift in the flour, cocoa powder, and salt. Using a rubber spoon, fold until just combined.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan.

  • Garnish with chocolate chip without covering the hearts.

The extra chocolate chips ensures the brownie is super fudgy AND bursting with chocolate flavor.

And the strawberries add a burst of freshness.

  • Remove from the oven and allow to cool completely before slicing.

The hardest part of making these chocolate strawberry brownies? is waiting for them to cool before you can slice into them.

So worth the wait, though!

Tips for Baking the Best Chocolate Brownies:

  • Do not over mix your brownie batter after adding the flour.
  • Do not over bake them either. Mine were done at exactly 25 minutes in a 9×9-inch pan. Each oven is different. But remember, they will continue to bake slightly in the hot pan once pulled out of the oven.
  • Line your baking pan with greased parchment paper and let it overhang on both sides a little, so you can easily pull them out of the pan.
  • Let your Brownies rest for at least 30 minutes and up to 1 hour before cutting.
  • Serve and enjoy!

Frequently Asked Questions:

Can I use frozen Strawberries in brownies?

Yes. BUT it will be hard to shape them into hearts, and you will need to add 10-15 minutes to the recommended baking time. Frozen strawberries will cool down the brownie batter and it will take longer to cook it through.

How can I make these brownies gluten free?

Of course! Use gluten-free flour instead with an equal amount and follow the recipe as normal. Brownies make a great gluten free treat.

How do I tell if my brownie is fudgy or undercooked?

Check for a shiny, crackly top: your brownies are cooked when they have an even, shiny surface. Any particular dark or sunken patches, particularly in the center, may indicate undercooked batter which needs more baking time.

Give the pan a quick shake: if the brownies wobble, slightly, they’re ready. If they wobble a lot or sink down, the batter requires more baking time.

These Strawberry Chocolate Brownies are deliciously rich, with that all-important fudgy center and crinkly brownie top. Trust me, you’ll make these brownies again and again!
